Juice Fasting, Tropical Fruits and the Wisdom of Paul Bragg

I just broke a 4 day juice fast. I had been fighting a virus, and my body was telling me to stop eating. So from wednesday afternoon till today, I took in nothing other than fruit and vegetable juices.
There is nothing like a short fast to remind your body”s senses of the importance of healthy healing foods. I decided to break the fast according to suggestions by Paul Bragg, in his book The Miracle of Fasting. What does that mean? Well, he encourages a fast to be ended with a nice fresh bowl of cabbage salad. I giggle of course, because any one who knows me knows I love a good cabbage salad! So a bit ago I ate about a cup and a half of slightly marinated slaw, chewed well, as I concentrated on healthy digestion. Later on I will eat a bowl of steamed kale topped with a bit of Braggs amino acids. Again, a suggestion from Bragg”s book.
\r\n\r\nBut I”m actually more excited about the Mamoncillo fruit I found at the grocer this afternoon. I hadn”t been out of the house much since I started the fast, so I was walking a bit like a zombie in the store. Then I passed the tropical fruit shelf and THERE THEY WERE! I have not had these since I was in Venezuela. On the island I also used to eat a similar fruit, called “Cotoperiz”. Both are very similar to a Lichee, in that they take work to eat! (Picture curtesy of Wikipedia)\r\n\r\nIf you”d like to learn more about Mamoncillo, you can find a great resource HERE.\r\n\r\nIll be honest, I am concerned about the fact that I am fighting a virus again, or that I was fighting a virus, to be more exact. I was sick with a headache about 6 weeks ago, and I know that part of this is all of the dental work I”ve had recently, and it could be detox, but still, something is missing in my regime. I know I have been eating more chocolate than normal (it”s dairy free super dark) but it”s chocolate nonetheless, and I think that this may be taxing my adrenals. I”m getting my adrenals, thyroid and hormones checked out by my Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor, so this will at the very least help me find a better balance. I”ve been stressed out physically, and I”m sure this isn”t too friendly on my body. I appreciate that I can FEEL these things, so I need to listen. If I don”t, it will be very easy for me to fall into even worse habits, and take the path downwards toward ill health.\r\n\r\nWhy am I waxing this way? From reading Braggs book, of course!
I was reminded once again how simple the answers are for those looking for good health. The simple principles are there, so I need only listen. I will begin a deep breathing practice each morning, this is my first new goal. Bragg”s message of healthly living is one that I have always held close.\r\n\r\nOn another note my latest client just launched her own website, and I celebrate this for her. Headed into July I have lots going on, so with good planning and focus I will not be struggling to keep my head above water. This is my plan: I will plan! I will set aside time to relax, set aside time to breathe, and set aside time to play! That is my intention. Thankfully, the last week of July is my vacation, my mother flying in from California for a visit. AND, we are definately trying to plan something fun for this year.
