What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Anyway?
Recently I have been asked several questions about my PCOS, and thought I would address them here on my blog. My PCOS is not something I was used to discussing, until I realized how many other women were suffering in silence just as I was! It was through my attempt to manage my PCOS that I was inspired to begin my wellness journey. I’d love for my story to inspire you!
Over the last decade I have experimented with various nutritional & alternative methods to manage my condition naturally. Currently, I am using regular cleansing and detoxification, cardiovascular exercise, strength training, dietary supplements, (including Botanical, EFAs & Vitamin D) Chinese Medicine and Accupuncture along with a topic application of bioidentical progesterone hormone. (The cream I am using is not from animal or human source, it is a plant extract.)
Each of these things is part of a lifestyle choice I have made, which has kept my weight down, my energy high, my hormones in balance, and my cycle regular. As a cleansing educator and nutritional counselor I have done much of the research on my own to make this program work, however, I am under the care of a licensed TCM practitioner and Oriental medicine doctor so we are able to run lab tests to validate my success. For those of you out there who are looking for an alternative method, or an integrative medical approach to your diagnosis, I encourage you to locate a qualified practitioner who can evaluate your situation, and help you find a path that works for you.
I have read in countless books and journals that PCOS is considered a syndrome of modernity, so for me, much of my process has involved turning back the hands of time, and removing the affect of modern infuence in terms of food, dietary additives, polution and chemicals from my system. I have utilized various forms of ancient medicine including Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, and Western Herbalism. I will not claim my path is EASY, but it has allowed me to use natural treatment, and not lean on pharmaceutical medications which can have drastic side affects on my liver and digestive system.
Conception and birth of a healthy baby is possible with PCOS! In 2007 I became pregnant with my son Will who is the love my life and the proof in the pudding. Watch for more about Will in my journal.
You can view many of the articles and letters I have written in response to questions on the topic of PCOS if you navigate the subpages/buttons which are the links found on the upper right column of this page. In the future I plan to offer my PCOS story as an eBook, and give extensive detail on the natural remedies I am using. In the meantime, keep my homesite www.askcassyfirst.com bookmarked!
Enjoy. If you can’t find your answer here, please, don’t hesitate to ask Cassy first!
