Acne & Cleansing Diets
Cassy~any recommendation for a diet to help manage acne? Will your ‘cleansing diet’ support clear skin? Thanks in advance!
I understand dealing with acne: have been there myself, as has my sis. If you are willing to try a 100% raw diet, and haven’t seen her site aready, I encourage you to check out the the website called www.freeacnebook.com It is a unique raw diet, and one of the first I tried when I discovered this path in ‘03. Wai (also has a website called waisays.com, ) offers TONS of scientific backup for why diet and skin issues are connected.
I have been eating a high raw diet since ‘03. I found Wai’s diet back in the early days, since then I’ve found a modified way to eat RAW which keeps my temptations down I am not 100% raw vegan, I typically eat mostly fruits, veggies & clean proteins. I also eat lots of sashimi & sushi. My personal experience with PCOS is that the high fiber in a raw diet is what helps me maintain healthy hormone levels. Fiber also supports healthy cholesterol levels & balanced blood sugar. Unlike many women with PCOS who have chosen Western medical treatments, I have not used any birth control or metformin, & my system is balanced and generally speaking my acne has cleared. I also bleed on schedule, have little excess weight, and my skin is clear. These are all key signs of PCOS, and things discussed by Wai on her diet website. My DHEA levels are also way down from what they were.
Wai’s diet is a bit lower in fiber than my way of interpreting the raw diet, BUT for a newbie, and for an individual just starting out looking for an acne control diet program, I like Wai’s FreeAcneBook program. I’ve known lots of people that it works for too.
Keep in mind, in the big scheme of things, the skin is a channel of elimination, and when your first line (the liver) is bogged down, you will see it in your skin. Acne can be caused by detox. It can also be related to hormones, and other chemical processes in the body, but they all go back to sebum, and the pores themselves. Wai’s book explains that it has to do with being dehydrated. When the skin is dehydrated, the cells hold water, which pinches the sebum canals, which then blocks the pores, and allows things to fester. Ie, it isn’t the oil, or the bacteria, it is the fact that they can’t escape.
Honestly, her diet worked for me. Now, even if I cheat a bit, I don’t see the kind of breakouts I did before I started to cleanse and detoxify my body through diet and lifestyle. It means a strict diet, not using soaps on your face, and washing with special mineral water for a two week trial. I encourage you to check it out. What is 2 weeks in the big picture.
Feel free to read my journal, I did outline my story about acne in it, somewhere back in 2005 I think…
GOod luck.
