Cleansing, Stress & Supplements

When I cleanse and fast on the Master Cleanse I get anxious, and often feel panic. I am working with an ND, but was curious if you would comment on stress, cleansing, and if there are supplements which can help me.

Once upon a time I took daily magnesium supplements specifically for stress. I was using Mag Relax, a less expensive version of “Natural Calm” which is a powdered magnesium supplement that activates in water. It can be used for many things, to keep your bowels regular is one of them. (headaches and anxiety are others.) Last time I did the MC I used CleanseMore, which is a magnesium and herbal combination.

I used to experience panic attacks. Bear in mind, I am not a doctor, but I can say from first hand experience that panic and anxiety is no party. I have had anxiety issues off and on for years. It oftens rears its head when I am cleansing. It is like I am scared of the detox reactions, then I get hypochondria too. (especially if I feel light headed…that gets me anxious in a milisecond!) I remember reading on Shazzie’s website that she hyperventilated on a fast before too. It is not uncommon I don’t think. Part of detox for some. Emotional stuff coming up, which is why many people do supervised fasts.

So when one is stressed out, it is in thier best interest to find a practitioner who can determine any underlying issues you may have in order that you can cleanse with the comfort of knowing you are ok. That sence of comfort and safety will then assuage your fears and reduce panic. Never disregard your doctor/practitioner’s suggestions. You have that right, but it is a slippery slope for anyone to tell you to do so. I recommend that you continue to dive deep trying to find out the root cause of what happens when you do the MC. It may be physical, but it may be a psychological reaction too. Only your body really knows that.

You might very well benefit from having a Nutri-Body assessment. Most nutritionists or ND can do this for you. It is basically a long quiz whose results can tell a lot. Since you have a practitioner already I would ask him/her about it. I also offer it to my clients.

To support your body’s ability to healthfully manage stress, you may want to try taking chromium or Lglutamine. I would also encourage eating low glycemic foods and continuing with the greens. as they are high in minerals which really help with managing stress. Fruit, because it is so cleansing will quickly cause your body to need remineralization. (Ask anyone who has been a long time fruitarian.) If you dont replace those lost, the body will pull them from the teeth and bones.

I wish you luck.
