The disapearing - reappearing journal, eating cooked foods & last entry till July…
Mon Mar 14, 2005 6:26pm I just wanted to take a second and write a note to everyone. I disapeared over the weekend, didn’t I?
I have been crazy busy over the last week or so, and haven’t had nearly a moment free to write in my online journal. Work is ramping up for our newest promotion, and I have a bit of dental work and a vacation ahead of me over the next few weeks as well. Because of this I am taking a break from jounaling, but not from raw.
Having spent the last few days strengthening my immune system to help my body shed a cold virus, I haven’t been eating much at all. I did eat some broth and cooked butternut squash last week, but my appetite was pretty much wiped out due to the lack of taste. (Stuffy nose.)
I have been eating a lot of apples, and had some hummus and carrots. (the beans were cooked.) I have cut back tremendously on the unfermented cabbage, and am doing more of tomatoes and cucumber salads along with my other foods. (This has been very helpful with my bloating & IBS trigger.) Have also been eating a lot of cashews since I had bought 10 pounds from my friend a few weeks ago. Overall I am probably averaging about 80-20 raw to cooked, and that is by calorie.
Seems like that is the ratio I seem to sit at when I don’t push myself. It is a pretty neat thing that I am able to hang at that number without tracking obsessively either. (Haven’t used the nutrient tracker since January.) I feel great actually, although I am mostly getting my heavy calories from cooked foods though. But I do feel like this is making a difference in my digestive system. (some animal products yes, and yet no wheat no dairy.) I have made a few of the gluten free recipies out of my old candida free cookbooks, and so I have included oats & rice. They seem to be helping a whole lot. Including these certain cooked foods is allowing me to not have to eat so much sweet fruit and nuts.
I am thrilled the magazine is helping those who have emailed. Please feel free to email me if you want, although I will be periodically checking my private messages on here as well.
The next few weeks are really full on my schedule, so journaling will be on the back burner. I do get a few minutes during breaks at work to check in, so that is when I pop on the boards and see whats going on.
Oh- I had a lovely conversation with Jackie the other day. She gave me a ring at work, and we had a bit of a chat about nutrition, and health and family. It was really nice to put a voice to the face I see here online! She gave me some tips for my upcoming vacation to see my inlaws. Thank you!
Anyway, I will do my best to pop on here a couple of days a week to journal. If you don’t see me for a few days, then you can know that I have probably been REALLY busy, but I am not relapsing, or falling into bad habits. This was a really neat experience, getting to write about the 100% raw challenge. And, guess what? I am nearly a month away from my 2 year raw aniversary! Hurrah!
Be well!

The digestive system of a rat, poor digestion & pilates
I am sad this afternoon. Mostly because I was reading case studies as part of some research for work, and had to read about some little rats who they were testing on with regard to colon cancer. IT is not anything my company is doing, it was actually a case study done by a rather well known gastroenterologist noting the affect of healthy flora/ prebiotics and colonic function on colon cancer. The sad part was they had to feed the little guys something to test about carcinogens. That was the sad part. I hate that unfortunately in every industry things like this exist. I am glad that my company formulated all its products through experience in Colon Clinics. We do not rely on such other means.
Today I have a sore throat again. I noticed it a bit last night, and by 4am it hurt so bad I had to stumble downstairs and gargle with hot water and Celtic salt until it was soothed enough that I could sleep. I have had like no appetite. I had only tea till lunch time, and then I had some warm water mashed into the steamed butternut squash to warm my throat. Everything hurts. Afterwards I ate some cashews. I am trying a bit of carrots. Hum…I am noticing a pattern in my orange colored foods again today. My body must be needing the antioxidants to help me get well? I will eat oranges tonight when I get home. Not a lot of food today, but mostly cause when ones throat hurts it is hard to eat, isn’t it? I don’t even want to drink tepid water, which is a usual favorite.
Work is ramping up again, as we are starting a new promotion. And, it is getting close to my vacation time. (T and I are taking a 4 day weekend to visit family) so I have to remain on top of everything.
Gee, I am sitting here looking at my food-combining chart, carrots are a starch. I know that, but I didn’t really KNOW that. Or accept that I guess. I suppose that is why I have such issue with my pancreas even when raw. I mean, I know my PCOS is much less severe, but it is not totally reversed. The blood sugar part, I mean. I eat lots of carrots, and the occasional yam and winter squash. If they are high starch, then they are not good for me in huge quantities, especially if I don’t take fats in with them. I suppose that is why I like junking out on steamed yams mixed with almond butter. Ever had it? It is delicious. Not sure when I started that one, but it is sure tasty.
I did some lovely high intensity yoga/Pilates last night, I was up and down on the mat, moving though stretches, totally unorthodox, but it felt great. I stretched out my back too, and it is feeling MUCH better. Not totally relaxed as normal, but getting there. I bounced around a lot with the exercises, like a boxer does, which I find is a great way to keep my heart rate up when doing weights and calisthenics. My latest desire is to buy a treadmill so I am not dependant on the hours of the gym in my complex. Money money money. When we move this summer hopefully it will be to a less urban area that will allow walking…
Well, back to work.
